LSPR To Cancel 2020 Event Due to COVID-19 Concerns

SPEEDWAY, IND. ~ With great regret, the Lake Superior Performance Rally scheduled for this October, has been cancelled.

The LSPR board, in conjunction with the American Rally Association, made the difficult decision earlier this week. Officials weighed several factors, including the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic and loss of permission to utilize key areas and stages that have made LSPR one of the oldest, meanest and toughest rallies in North America.

“As we all struggle with the daily changes and uncertainty brought upon us by the pandemic, we realized that we are unable to proceed with this fall’s rally,” said Joanne Polzien, LSPR Chair, “While seeking alternatives, it became clear that we would not be able to put on an event that we would be proud of, while ensuring the safety of everyone involved. That includes competitors, workers, volunteers, spectators and the local community.”

While LSPR will focus on its 2021 event, the American Rally Association still has three National Championship events left on the schedule. Next week, the top teams will head to northern Minnesota for the annual Ojibwe Forests Rally on August 28-29. In October, the ARA will head to Missouri for the Show Me Rally, which turns into a two-day national as a replacement of the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood event that was cancelled in March. The ARA will conclude its national series with the rescheduled Olympus Rally in Shelton, Wash., November 14-15.

There are also two ARA Regional events still on the schedule, Rally Nevada in November and the Nemadji Winter Rally in December.
